Amazon Moves Prime Day, Keeps Four-Day Shopping Event for 2026

Amazon has confirmed that Prime Day 2026 will run from June 23 through June 26, marking a shift away from the July schedule the company has followed in recent years.

The shopping event begins on June 23 and will feature hundreds of thousands of deals across categories such as electronics, clothing, beauty products, home goods, kitchen essentials, groceries, and back-to-school items.

“Prime Day is the biggest shopping event of the year exclusively for members, whether they’re looking for deals on the latest electronics, getting ahead on back-to-school shopping, or saving on fresh groceries and household essentials,” said Jamil Ghani, vice president of Amazon Prime, in a company announcement.

Why Amazon moved the event

The June timing represents a notable change for Amazon’s flagship summer sale. The company last held Prime Day in June 2021 and has since settled into a July pattern over the past several years.

According to Reuters, Amazon considered major global events when selecting the new dates. “This year, we have the (FIFA) World Cup,” Ghani told Reuters. “We’ve got also the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence, and so we thought this week (beginning June 22) was the best week for us to hold Prime Day.”

Industry observers note that moving Prime Day earlier could also influence the broader retail calendar, as competing retailers frequently launch rival promotions around the same period to capture consumer spending.

Four days of deals stay in place

Amazon is maintaining the extended four-day format introduced last year after expanding the event from its traditional two-day run.

CNBC reported that Amazon decided to keep the longer schedule after seeing strong engagement throughout the 2025 sale period. The company plans to introduce new discounts and limited-time offers each day to encourage shoppers to return multiple times during the event.

Since its launch in 2015, Prime Day has evolved from a one-day promotion celebrating Amazon’s anniversary into one of the company’s largest annual sales events. While electronics and Amazon-branded devices remain major attractions during Prime Day, groceries and household products are expected to play a larger role this year.

CNBC reported that Amazon plans to highlight discounts on food, household necessities, and personal care products as consumers continue looking for ways to stretch their budgets amid economic uncertainty. “Of course, we’re sensitive and cognizant that there’s economic uncertainty and everyone’s trying to make their dollar, their euro, their rupee stretch further,” Ghani said, according to CNBC.

Reuters also reported that Amazon expects shoppers to stock up on groceries and everyday essentials ahead of World Cup gatherings and holiday celebrations. The company has increasingly invested in same-day and next-day grocery delivery to compete with other major retailers.

“As groceries and household essentials grow as a part of our business overall … it’ll grow as a percent of the total units that we ship,” Ghani told Reuters.

The event will be available exclusively to Prime members in the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Canada, and several other countries.
