Dogecoin supporters have celebrated International Doge Day on Nov. 2 with tributes to Kabosu, the Shiba Inu behind the Doge meme, while DOGE has traded near $0.074, roughly 90% below its record high.

Summary

  • DogeOS and FLOKI shared tributes celebrating Kabosu and the community built around her image.
  • Sakura City’s Doge Day event listed a gathering at Kabosu’s bronze statue in Japan.
  • DOGE traded near $0.074, with a market capitalization of approximately $11.5 billion.
  • Dogecoin Labs’ formation has brought fresh plans for wallets, payments and applications using DOGE.

DogeOS and FLOKI marked the occasion in Nov. 2 posts on X, sharing celebratory images and messages about the dog whose face became one of the internet’s most recognizable memes.

“From memes to movements,” DogeOS wrote, accompanying its message with an illustration of Doge characters enjoying a picnic, games, and a barbecue beneath a “Happy Doge Day” banner.

FLOKI’s tribute focused on Kabosu’s legacy and the community’s “Do Only Good Everyday” motto. Its image showed two Shiba Inus beside a sign identifying Nov. 2, 2026, as International Doge Day.

“One Shiba Inu. A legendary meme. A legacy that brings people together across the world,” the project wrote.

Doge Day honors Kabosu in her Japanese hometown

The event listing for this year’s celebration identified Sakura Furusato Square in Sakura City, Japan, as the venue, with free admission and scheduled appearances by Kabosu’s owner, Atsuko Sato, the city’s mayor, and Own The Doge representatives.

Organized by Own The Doge and Sato, the annual occasion falls on Kabosu’s birthday. The venue houses the bronze memorial unveiled in her honor on Nov. 2, 2023.

In October 2023, crypto.news covered the community’s statue campaign, which raised more than $42,000 in cryptocurrency donations within its first 72 hours.

The Dogecoin Foundation’s subsequent memorial statement put the fundraising total at nearly $100,000. Kabosu died on May 24, 2024, aged 18.

Sato, a kindergarten teacher living in Sakura, adopted Kabosu after she was rescued from a puppy mill. According to the Foundation, Sato used the attention surrounding her dog to promote animal rescue and adoption.

Kabosu’s expression became central to the Doge meme, whose popularity helped inspire Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer to create Dogecoin in December 2013. The Foundation describes the cryptocurrency’s early use as a playful way for social media users to send small amounts to one another.

Dogecoin remains well below its record price

CoinGecko data showed DOGE trading near $0.07371 during reporting, down approximately 2.1% over 24 hours and 4.4% over seven days.

Its market capitalization stood around $11.5 billion, placing it 12th among cryptocurrencies on the tracker. Daily trading volume was approximately $367 million.

Against CoinGecko’s recorded all-time high of $0.7316, DOGE remained almost 90% lower. A return to $0.10 from $0.07371 would require a gain of roughly 35.7%.

The celebration posts from DogeOS and FLOKI contained no specific DOGE price forecasts, focusing instead on Kabosu, community participation and the meme’s legacy.

Dogecoin Labs brings three product teams together

Beyond the anniversary messages, Dogecoin’s development businesses have undergone a recent reorganization.

The October Dogecoin Labs announcement outlined plans to bring MyDoge, DogeOS and Such App together, combining wallet distribution, application development and merchant payment tools.

House of Doge said the Foundation designated Labs as its official commercial partner. Jordan Jefferson leads the organization, with MyDoge and DogeOS co-founder Alex Lewis and Foundation director Tim Stebbing involved.

DogeOS had opened its public developer testnet on Sept. 30, allowing teams to work on Ethereum-compatible applications using DOGE for transaction fees. Its launch announcements described trading, lending, stablecoin, and gaming projects under development.

MoonPay separately announced native DOGE support across its network of more than 6,000 merchants in June. It said businesses could receive settlement in fiat currencies or stablecoins.

House of Doge retains investment-product rights

For the US investment business, House of Doge’s SEC filing describes a replacement, nonexclusive license covering existing 21Shares Dogecoin products, including TDOG and TXXD.

The filing records an agreement to transfer Such App assets to Dogecoin Labs in exchange for shares valued at $4 million. The transaction remained unclosed when disclosed, with lender consents and asset transfers among its conditions.

Under the terminated commercial agreement, House of Doge and its US subsidiary agreed to change their corporate names and stop using the Foundation’s “Official Corporate Arm” or “Official Commercial Partner” designations before Dec. 31, 2026.
